According to Stephen King, "To write is human, to edit is divine."  He also said, "The editor is always right." I’m not about to argue with Stephen King – and neither should you!

As a copy-editor, my job is to take existing text (copy) and refine it. I will edit any existing, non-specialist copy, for authors, businesses and individuals. For example:

  • manuscripts for self-publishing authors (fiction and non-fiction)*
  • press releases
  • articles and editorial 
  • blogs
  • web content
  • brochure, marketing or advertisement copy
  • basically, if it has words, and you think it could sound better, I can help

We will have an initial conversation so that I fully understand your expectations, and crucially, how you need the final text to sound and what job it has to do. The resulting copy will still be your own work, but it will be the very best version of itself.

*NOTE TO AUTHORS: When you trust me with your words, I'll make a promise to NEVER unsettle your characters, disrupt your narrative, or in any way muddy the atmosphere that you’ve worked so hard to create.

Copy-editing -

My copy-editing will refine and polish your words by:

  • checking sentence structure and syntax
  • checking consistent use of tenses and POV
  • improving flow and readability
  • ensuring clarity, sense and suitability for purpose
  • offering alternative suggestions to cliches or predictable metaphors and similes
  • checking for consistency throughout and highlighting any continuity issues
  • providing all the final checks included in a full proofread

Copy-edits are carried out using MS Word Track Changes or PDF annotations.
 
I will return two copies of your project: one showing mark-ups and one clean, final copy.

I will explain the reasoning behind the changes I suggest and you can choose whether or not to use them.

I will also provide comments and feedback where appropriate.

 

 *Rates vary depending on the level of work required, the word count and any special requirements you may have. 
A final quote will be given once I have reviewed a sample.
Maximum rate capped at: 2.5p per word.
 Small projects up to 1300 words, will be charged at a fixed rate of £30.00.
A deposit will be required prior to work starting.
